City Gifts showcases the astonishing gifts that have been received and collected by the City of Melbourne in the twentieth century. Curated by Professor Adrian Franklin, Professor of Sociology at the University of Tasmania and a panellist on ABC’s Collectors, the exhibition not only shares the enormous variety and beauty of these objects but also interprets them in order to illustrate how the giving and receiving of gifts has been fundamental in creating and maintaining Melbourne’s International Alliances. Features the gifts of a Queen and a President, gifts made by the finest craftsmen in London, Milan and St Petersburg, as well as a sample of keys to cities from all corners of the earth.
