For the first time ever, Sutherland Shire is an official venue for the Sydney Festival, in the form of a unique concert at SEC. A virtuoso of the kora (an amazing 21-string harp), Seckou Keita is a shining advocate of the rhythmically rocking repertoire of southern Senegal. Keita and his quintet blend traditional West African roots music with modern European jazz and classical music influences to produce a unique sound. The quintet is formed by Keita, Egyptian violinist Samy Bishai, Italian bassist Davide Mantovani, Gambian percussionist Surahata Susso and the bluesy vocals of Binta Suso. Creating everything from funky Afro-jazz grooves to solo instrumental laments, Seckou Keita SKQ have captivated audiences from Montreal to Senegal with their energetic, uplifting sounds. Come and celebrate the Sydney Festival with them right here in the Shire. Preshow dining or cabaret options are available - enjoy the show form your table over a delicious meal.
